The Board of Directors of Music City Legend unanimously voted on Monday evening, May 9th, 2011, to suspend rehearsal operations preparatory to the 2011 Drum Corps Associates season. The Board will meet again within the next four weeks to determine the long-range future of the corps.
All members of the MCL instructional staff, DCA leadership and contest sponsors, and the DCA-South corps directors have been notified. The corps will issue a public press release on this matter by week’s end.
A solid program and musical repertoire had been developed for the 2011 season. But despite the best efforts of management and a tremendous staff of local instructors and writers, the corps was unable to attract sufficient membership to meet the DCA minimum size limit. The corps had been planning an ambitious return to DCA field competition after being inactive in 2010. The corps' last field performance was at the 2009 DCA Championship Prelims in Rochester, New York, where the corps placed 12th.
Despite the most sucessful initial response to online and in-person recruiting efforts in the corps' history, the corps was unable to convert these recruits into prospective members who would attend a rehearsal to see the corps (and participate) for themselves.
