Music City Legend to Host Dance

Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps will host a dance, Dancing with the Legend, on Friday evening, August 6th, at the Nashville Farmers’ Market, 900 Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, in Nashville beginning at 7:00 PM. Music will be provided by The Moonlighters, a well-known area dance band.

Beer and wine will be available for those of legal drinking age, with proper ID. There will also be a “silent auction” throughout the evening with a wide range of products and services available for bidding. Winners will be announced at the end of the event.

Laurie Ford, Music City Legend’s treasurer and chairperson for the event, indicated that the corps had been looking for various fundraisers outside of the drum corps activity in an effort to raise public awareness of the corps’ existence. “We’ve been seen as one of the ‘rising stars’ in drum corps circles, but no one in Nashville knows about us. That’s part of the nature of the region.”

“Ballroom Dancing” has come back into vogue in recent years with its certification as a competitive Olympic sport and the success of such TV shows as Dancing with the Stars. Locally, bands such as The Moonlighters have been in heavy demand for such events. Their repertoire includes a variety of music including big band, swing, and jazz.

Dance admission tickets are $15.00 each. To make reservations and purchase tickets online, click here to order by credit card through PayPal. For further information, call 615.885.0556 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We want to acknowledge companies and individuals who contribute to the silent auction by including their name and donation on our auction bid sheets. In order to do this, we need to receive auction items by July 23 to allow preparation and printing time.

Please send auction items to Laurie Ford, 206 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214 or call for pick-up 615-885-0556.

YOU helped Legend Win a $20,000 Grant!

THANK YOU to all friends and family members who voted for Music City Legend in the Chase Community Giving program. We made it into the top 200, finishing at 194, and it was VERY close. Every vote meant a lot to us. The corps will receive a $20,000 grant which will help tremendously in our re-organization and return to the field in 2011.

Your support is humbling and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Stay tuned for other ways to help Music City Legend, including the upcoming "Dancing with the Legend" fundraiser featuring a live big band for a fun evening of dinner, dancing and silent auction!

Legend Performs for Governor

A contingent of brass musicians from Nashville’s Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps performed the National Anthem last Thursday, June 10th, at the monthly luncheon hosted by the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce at the Opryland Radisson Hotel in Nashville.  The featured speaker was Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, who spoke about education and how the people of the Donelson-Hermitage community helped him start his political career.  He is now serving the last months of his second and final four-year term.

Governor Bredesen visited with the members of the corps prior to their performance and posed for photographs before returning to the fete.  He discussed his exposure to the activity as a baritone player during his youth in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York in the late 1950s, but dispelled the rumor that he had actually been a marching member of a corps.

Music City Legend, Nashville’s first and only all-age drum corps, is not competing in 2010 to recruit, raise operating funds, pursue additional similar performance opportunities, and increase the corps’ name recognition in Middle Tennessee.  The corps will maintain public visibility in the drum corps community by performing in six parades in the Greater Baltimore area over Independence Day weekend.  The corps also hopes to strengthen its ties to the Mid-south’s performing arts community.

Music City Legend encourages all who wish to support the corps through this process and/or be a part of Legend in 2011 to join them now.  More information can be found at http://www.musiccitylegend.org or by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Music City Legend Will Not Compete in 2010

Music City Legend, Nashville’s first and only all-age drum corps, will not compete in either the Drum Corps Associates or Drum Corps International circuits this summer, according to MCL Executive Director Scott Rhodes.

Legend’s Board of Directors decided that, based upon the corps’ current financial and organizational situation, it was best for the corps to take a year off and use the time to recruit, fundraise, and establish a more cohesive business plan before re-taking the field in 2011. A key part of Music City Legend’s new business plan will be a concerted effort to strengthen its ties to the Mid-South performing arts community. However, Rhodes stresses that one thing that will not change for next year is the corps’ commitment to bringing a fun and entertaining program to the field for the audience and the corps’ members.

The corps will maintain public visibility in 2010 through parade appearances and concerts. Legend will also host Tennessee’s only all-age drum corps competition, Music City Metal IV, on Saturday, August 7, at Antioch High School, 1900 Hobson Road, in Antioch, Tennessee. Corps from Georgia, Florida, and Virginia are expected to attend. Ticket information will be available soon on the corps’ website and telephone information line (615.691.1918).

Music City Legend encourages all who wish to support the corps through this process and/or be a part of Legend in 2011 to join them now.
